My name is Karen Johnson and I'm an artist working in Derby under the name of Millie Moth. I paint colourful flower pictures and from these I create my Wild Garden and Wild Collage Collections of prints & cards.

Enjoying time in my own garden inspired me to start painting my Wild Garden Collection which focusses on the colour and textures of wild flowers and tangled foliage. Using beautifully vibrant alcohol ink pens along with drops of neat alcohol, I paint onto Yupo paper, which has a shiny finish allowing the inks to move on the surface, rather than being absorbed. The inks themselves are such bold luscious colours, and when dispersed with the neat alcohol can give the effect of watercolour paints in the way they move into each other, creating a soft, dreamy look. The unpredictable nature of alcohol inks allow me to recreate my own version of that wild beauty I so love. My style features a bold sky background and a wild grassy foreground, with flowers taking the starring role in the centre.

The Wild Collage Collection is created digitally using my strong blue sky backgrounds and other elements of my paintings in combination with isolated drawings and photographs of plants and animals. I then insert each plant, blade of grass or animal image into the picture and layering them up into a whole design. I like to create a sense of wildlife moving within my paintings and bringing them to life.
